The Industrial Investment Council (IIC) is an investment promotion agency focusing on eastern Germany, offering free-of-charge consulting and project management services for all industry sectors.

Their mission is to create jobs in eastern Germany. They assist companies with investing in the region and support them in identifying the best choices for success. Founded in 1997, the IIC’s stakeholders are the German Federal Government and the six eastern German states, sometimes also known as the New German States.

The IIC Value-Added Solution

The IIC acts as a link between investors, industries, and the government in eastern Germany. Their services include providing assistance in areas such as strategy planning, market research, competitive data compiling, location assessments, site visits and selection, partner identification, financial incentives advising, resourcing human capital, general negotiations, permit applications and overall project management.

The IIC’s core competence stems from its strategists and consultants who counsel companies from industries such as automotive, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, technology, services and manufacturing. Regional experts with local market insight based in New York, San Francisco, Detroit, London and Tokyo, and senior advisors with in-depth industry knowledge support its staff of 30 professionals in Berlin.

Supervisory Board

The IIC is advised by a supervisory board whose members represent reputable international companies such as General Motors, BASF, KfW, Siemens and Goldman Sachs. In addition, the economic ministers of the six eastern German states and the Minister for Infrastructure, Building and Housing (who is also the Coordinator for eastern Germany) serve on the board.

Since its inception, the IIC has successfully assisted 91 international investors in expanding into eastern Germany, which in turn has contributed to the direct creation of about 16,500 jobs.

The investment volume that the IIC has directed into the region stands at about 4.1 billion euros. Among the recent investors are Mitsui, Oracle, Vestas, Nanometrics, BMW, and Citrico.
