Commission Report (2002): Latvia
The alignment of mutual recognition of professional qualifications and
diplomas is proceeding as scheduled. In accordance with the requirements of
the Action Plan, the administrative structures of the Academic Information
Centre have been strengthened through an increase of staff, but further
efforts are necessary; implementation of training programmes is on track.
With regard to professional qualifications obtained before harmonisation,
measures need to be introduced. The administrative structure for the
co-ordination of social security has been further developed; an
inter-institutional working group to supervise preparations in this field has
been established as outlined in the Action Plan. Overall, the Accession
Partnership priorities in the area of free movement of persons have been met
to a large extent. The time schedule set in the Action Plan is being largely
respected.
