Commission Report 2002 (Slovakia)
The process of
consolidation of democratic institutions noted in the three previous Reports
has continued. EU accession remained high on the political agenda.
Parliamentary elections took place in September 2002. The elecctions were
conducted in a free and fair manner. The voter turnout was 70%, as compared
to 84% in the last parliamentary elections in 1998. Seven parties (ten in
1998) passed the 5% electoral threshold.
