Act on Science and Technics

Act No. 132/2002 Coll. on Science and Technics

The Act on Science and Technics represents a complex legal regulation in this area, which has been missing in the Slovak legal system and was based only on various specific acts.

This Act regulates position of science and technics within the system of society organisation. The Act further regulates the role of the state in the organisational structure of individual sectors of research and its support by the state. The Act stipulates mutual competencies, rights and duties of central bodies of state administration of the Slovak Republic and legal entities and natural persons and provides for basic rules for support of research and development based on new subject - Agency for Research and Development.

The Act further stipulates terms, conditions and forms of provision of state support for research and development, evaluation system, as well as information backing of the research and development.

In order to ensure a clear and definite interpretation of the Act, the Act defines certain basic and derived terms used in the area of science and technics, for example science, technics, research and development, research project, research task and technical infrastructure.

This Act came into force on 1 April 2002.
