Amendment to the Act on Minimum Wage and the Governmental Order on Amount of the Minimum Wage

Act No. 225/2002 Coll. amending the Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 90/1996 Coll. on Minimum Wage, as amended; Order of the Government of the Slovak Republic No. 226/2002 Coll. amending and supplementing the Order of the Government of the Slovak Republic No. 411/2001 Coll. stipulating the Amount of the Minimum Wage

The Act on Minimum Wage was amended in connection with the new Labour Code introducing 40 hours of work per week. Therefore provisions based on 42 and half hours of work per week were replaced. In calculation of supplements to earned wage in case the wage does not reach the amount of minimum wage, not only premium for overtime work, but also premium for work on public holiday, for night work and for work in arduous and hazardous conditions are not included. For the purposes of the Act on Minimum Wage, hours of overtime work are not included in the number of hours worked.

Based on legal authorisation the Government amended the amount of the minimum hourly wage in its order. As of April 2002 the minimum wage per each hour worked is increased from SKK 26.60 to SKK 28.30. The minimum monthly wage remains unchanged and amounts to SKK 4,920 at present.

This Act and Order came into force on 30 April 2002.
