Amendment to Act on Criminal Registry

Act No. 418/2002 Coll., amending and supplementing the Act No. 311/1999 Coll. on Criminal Registry, as amended by the Act No. 48/2002 Coll. and amending and supplementing certain other acts

The amendment of the Act on Criminal Registry simplifies the procedure of application for extracts from the registry. It is no more necessary to submit birth certificates of applicants with an application. The information contained in the application is verified from the applicant's identification card or passport. Information not included in such documents need to be proven by additional documents only in case of doubt about the person's identity.

Applications for extracts from the Criminal Registry may be submitted also through a local municipality performing the function of birth registry office. For an additional fee of SKK 50 the municipalities will verify the information contained in the application and will send the application to the Criminal Registry office.

The amendment also contains a curious change. Record of convicted person also contains his/her nickname, if such nickname exists. The Criminal Registry contains, in addition to the information on convicted persons and conditionally suspended criminal investigations, also information on settlements approved in criminal proceedings (see the part on amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code in this issue).

This Act became effective from 1 September 2002.
